President’s Message

Dear GMC Chapter Members,

As we enter February, we join the nation in honoring Black History Month, a time to recognize, reflect on, and celebrate the profound contributions of African Americans to our country’s history, culture, and progress. This month is not only about looking back; it is also about considering how we, as GMC members and leaders, can embody the values and legacy of those who have paved the way.

Black History Month reminds us of the power of perseverance, courage, innovation, and service. From trailblazers in education, business, science, and the arts, to community organizers and everyday leaders who changed lives quietly but powerfully, African Americans have consistently shown what it means to lead with purpose and to serve with commitment.

As members of the PCMA GMC Chapter, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to turn that inspiration into action. We can exemplify the spirit of Black History Month by:

  • Actively educating ourselves on Black history not only the struggles, but the innovations, leadership, and cultural contributions that shaped our world.
  • Supporting Black-owned businesses and Black-led nonprofits, helping strengthen economic and community resilience.
  • Engaging with Black voices and perspectives by attending local cultural events, reading works by Black authors, and amplifying diverse viewpoints in our workplaces and networks.
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion year-round, encouraging recognition of African American contributions does not end on February 28.

My challenge to each of us this month is to choose at least one meaningful action within our PCMA GMC Chapter, our workplaces, or our communities that reflects the values of Black History Month, which include leadership, service, equity, and respect. When we do this collectively, we not only honor the past but also shape a more inclusive and vibrant future.

Thank you for all you do to strengthen our PCMA GMC community, I look forward to seeing how we, together, live out the spirit of Black History Month through our leadership and service.

In unity and support,

Phillip Ridley, CMP
