Dear GMC Chapter Members,
As we officially begin summer, I want to take a closer look at how July is a month defined by milestones. From celebrating our 250th anniversary of Independence Day and landmark civil rights touchstones, to cultural celebrations and global sporting events such as the World Cup, this month is rich with reminders of courage, vision, and the power of people coming together for something bigger than themselves.
These iconic historical and cultural moments aren’t just dates on a calendar; they are leadership lessons. They remind us that progress happens when individuals know their strengths, stand firmly in their values, and work collaboratively toward a shared optimistic future. As members of the Greater Midwest Chapter, we have the opportunity and responsibility to reflect those same qualities in how we show up every day.
Our industry thrives when we lead by example. This month, I invite each of you to consider:
How can I use my strengths more intentionally?
Whether you’re a strategic thinker, a relationship builder, a problem solver, or a creative visionary, your strengths are needed. Our chapter is strongest when each member leans into what they do best.
How am I contributing to a culture of respect and inclusion?
The milestones we honor this month challenge us to keep building a community where every voice is heard, and every person is valued across backgrounds, identities, and professional roles. Respect isn’t just a value we talk about; it’s something we demonstrate in every meeting, event, and interaction.
Where can I lead from where I am right now?
Leadership in our chapter doesn’t only mean holding a title. It means mentoring a colleague, sharing knowledge, volunteering time, advocating for our industry, and modeling professionalism and empathy toward one another.
What makes the Greater Midwest Chapter so special is the diversity of who we are and how we contribute to pushing the boundaries of what events can be, investing in innovation and education, bringing fresh perspectives and bold ideas, and generously sharing insights and lessons learned within our community of professionals.
In the same way iconic July milestones reflect collective progress built on individual acts of leadership, our chapter’s impact is built on each of you showing up as your best, most authentic self, using your strengths to elevate not only your career, but our entire industry.
As you enjoy this month’s celebrations and reflections, I encourage you to:
- Take pride in how far our profession has come
- Recognize your own growth and leadership journey
- Reach out to another member to connect, support, or collaborate
When we all lead with integrity, curiosity, and respect, we don’t just put on great events; we shape the future of the business events industry.
Thank you for being a vital part of the Greater Midwest Chapter of PCMA and for continuing to show the world how unique, talented, and committed our community is.
Wishing you a meaningful and inspiring Summer!
