Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Task Force Update

The Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Task Force continued their conversation series with a two-part event focusing on the millennial perspective on racial justice. The first part, a TED-style event, was featured in the GMC’s November Quarterly Education Webinar. The second event was a lively fireside with industry leaders, followed by a thought-provoking conversation with millennials who are on the ground and doing the work in support of racial justice and equity. These conversations focused on how our industry has and hasn’t changed, the work that needs to be done to move us forward, and how younger and older generations can work together to create positive change in our businesses and communities. Featured panelists included David Whitaker, Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE, Nykia Wright, Randall Williams, Ja’Mal Green, Morgan Malone, Keshia Scott, and Brian Riddick.

The task force will not be hosting any education in the months of December or January and will pick back up with our Lunch n’ Learn series in February 2021. Tough conversations are taxing, and the work we all do to make our industry more inclusive and diverse is challenging, so we hope everyone will take this time for some self-care and time with loved ones. We cannot be effective leaders and change-makers if we are burnt out. If you would like some ideas on movies, books, podcasts, or other sources to continue your own education on the topic of racial justice, please check out our Resources Library on the GMC website – https://greatermidwest.pcma.org/inclusion-diversity-equity-resources/. If you have any resources to share, or ideas for future webinars, please email Yolanda Simmons-Battle, CMP at [email protected].
