Dear GMC Chapter Members,
As we enter the month of May, I want to reflect on volunteering, which involves freely giving time and skills to support meaningful causes, foster community connections, and promote personal growth. Volunteering is a proactive and compassionate commitment that strengthens community bonds, often transforming our sense of purpose and providing immense personal gratification.
This definition perfectly captures why volunteerism is at the heart of the GMC Chapter’s strength and legacy. Our chapter is built on individuals who choose to show up before and after work, and often during the margins of their already busy lives, to give back to our community and our profession. In doing so, they not only advance GMC’s mission but also grow as leaders.
Volunteering is one of the most powerful pathways to leadership. When you raise your hand to help, you learn to manage projects, collaborate across teams, solve problems, and communicate with diverse stakeholders. You build confidence, resilience, and a broader perspective, qualities that shape leaders within our chapter, industry, and community.
For GMC, your volunteer efforts are essential. Each committee meeting you attend, every program you help run, and any outreach effort you support strengthens our chapter’s foundation and expands our impact. By giving your time and talents, you advance GMC and help ensure we remain a vibrant, relevant and inclusive community for years to come.
To all our members who are already serving, thank you. Your commitment to volunteerism, both within GMC and in your local communities, is greatly appreciated. You are the reason our chapter continues to grow, innovate, and lead.
If you have not yet found a way to get involved, I encourage you to consider making that commitment this year. Here are just a few ways you can volunteer:
- Join a GMC committee that aligns with your interests and skills.
- Offer to mentor a newer member or student.
- Volunteer at chapter events.
- Support diversity initiatives in your local community.
- Participate in community service projects organized by GMC or your employer.
Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, helps move our chapter ofrward and contributes to your own leadership journey.
I would also like to recognize and thank our dedicated volunteer committees and leaders whose work exemplifies the very best of the GMC Chapter:
